Description
Savor History with the oldest brand of Port Wine
This Quinta de São Luiz 2019 Vintage is the result of a dry and cold winter combined with August and September with a temperature range favorable to the maturation of the grapes. The absence of rain, high temperatures and cool nights, contrasted with the excesses seen in the summers of recent years. The harvest began with dry weather and moderate temperatures, which provided gradual maturation and healthy grapes.
Winemaking
Hand-picked at their optimum point, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified according to a process that is based on careful maceration with extraction of color, tannins and aromas from the skins, complemented by permanent pumping over during fermentation. This takes place in mills, at a controlled temperature between 28-30ºC, until reaching the desired Baumé degree. At this stage, wine brandy is added (benefit), resulting in a fortified wine. Wine of exceptional quality, from a single harvest, being obligatorily bottled between the second and third year after the harvest. An originally deep red wine, complex, full-bodied, with remarkable aging potential.
Tasting Notes
Dark black tone with violet hints. Splendid nose, with floral, minty aromas, black fruit – like blueberries, and smoked notes. On the palate it reveals an assertive acidity, characteristic of Casa Kopke, combined with intense tannins. The fresh fruit is delicate and the finish is long and enchanting, as is the tradition of these Single Quinta Vintages.
Recommendations
Try it during a meal with red meat and game dishes. Blue or soft cheeses, such as “Serra da Estrela”, are also an excellent combination. The exceptional quality of this wine makes it something unique, worthy of being enjoyed alone or with a nice cigar.
The wine must be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle must remain in a horizontal position. This wine can remain in bottle indefinitely, without any damage to the quality of its properties and character. Once opened, it should be decanted and consumed within 1 to 2 days. The times suggested here are merely guidelines, not implying the deterioration of the wine but only a slow evolution that could lead to the loss of its original sensorial characteristics. Serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.
