Description
Savor History with the oldest brand of Port Wine
The Quinta de São Luiz 2018 Vintage reflects the style of Casa Kopke and the exceptional terroir of Quinta de São Luiz. It lived a wine year marked by contrasts: an extremely dry and cold winter and an August and September marked as the hottest months in recent years. Despite the high temperatures in the summer, the foliage protected the berries from scorching and the vine was able to extract the necessary water and nutrients from the soil, which allowed the grapes to be harvested in an excellent state of health and good maturation.
Winemaking
Hand-picked at their optimum point, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified according to a process that is based on careful maceration with extraction of color, tannins and aromas from the skins, complemented by permanent pumping over during fermentation. This takes place in mills, at a controlled temperature between 28-30ºC, until reaching the desired Baumé degree. At this stage, wine brandy is added (benefit), resulting in a fortified wine. Wine of exceptional quality, from a single harvest, being obligatorily bottled between the second and third year after the harvest. An originally deep red wine, complex, full-bodied, with remarkable aging potential.
Tasting Notes
Intense in color, concentrated, with a fresh and exuberant nose where notes of ripe black fruit stand out in layers, this Vintage stands out for its structure and balance with a very present tannin, marking the style of Single Quinta Vintages by Casa Kopke. The crunchy acidity combined with the different layers of fresh fruit make this wine gluttonous and with an intense aftertaste, which gives it enormous potential for persistent aging.
Recommendations
Try it during a meal with red meat and game dishes. Blue or soft cheeses, such as “Serra da Estrela”, are also an excellent combination. The exceptional quality of this wine makes it something unique, worthy of being enjoyed alone or with a nice cigar.
The wine must be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle must remain in a horizontal position. This wine can remain in bottle indefinitely, without any damage to the quality of its properties and character. Once opened, it should be decanted and consumed within 1 to 2 days. The times suggested here are merely guidelines, not implying the deterioration of the wine but only a slow evolution that could lead to the loss of its original sensorial characteristics. Serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.
