Kopke celebrates 380 years with special edition release: CNK
The oldest Port Wine house presents 380 exclusive and numbered bottles of a Very Old Tawny Port that honors Cristiano Nicolau Kopke, the founder of Kopke in 1638.
Kopke CNK is a blend of wines from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as the extremely rare Harvest from the 1900s that Kopke still keeps in its vast stock of very old wines aged in wood. This is a unique Port wine that stands out for its complex flavors that are presented layer by layer!
Winemaking and Aging
Hand-picked grapes. Fermentation took place in granite vats, with foot treading, allowing a smooth and complete extraction of color, aromas and structure.
The wines that are at the origin of this special edition rested in old oak barrels of 650 liters, in the Kopke warehouses, in Vila Nova de Gaia. The exception is one of the oldest wines from this batch, which over the past two decades has remained in a 2,500-litre barrel.
Tasting Notes
Mahogany tone with greenish reflections. On the nose, it has opulent and intense aromas, where spicy notes such as cloves, curry and black pepper predominate, notes of dried fruits with an emphasis on hazelnuts, figs, nuts, always integrated with each other and combined with light coffee sensations. , chocolate and some molasses. In the mouth it presents an excellent combination between its acidity and the sugar that has concentrated all these years during its aging in oak casks, revealing itself to be fresh, corpulent and irreverent. It presents jam, cinnamon, curry, nutmeg and light balsamic flavors that are combined with some more resinous notes. A wine with very complex flavors that stand out layer after layer.
This wine reflects an entire art of knowing how to produce and care that the Kopke house knows how to do so well.
The wine must be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations and the bottle must remain in an upright position. As a natural product, Port Wine is subject to deposits with age. Once the bottle is opened, it is recommended to consume it within 2 to 4 months. Served slightly chilled, it is a very elegant aperitif.
